What's the
difference between counseling and "Life Coaching"?
Sometimes very little and sometimes a lot. There are currently no
certification agencies for "life coaches". Selecting a
life coach is largely a matter of identifying someone who has expertise in
the area(s) of your life that you want to improve and the willingness to
work with you.
Can
a counselor serve as your life coach? If you want to work on
your behavior, self-image, relationships with others, or employment
situations, the answer is "Definitely!"
There are state and national certification agencies for counselor
qualifications and credentials. You need to check with your
counselor to be certain, but counselors must typically subscribe to a Code
of Ethics as part of their certification requirements. Counselors
are accustomed to dealing with people in confidential matters.
But
people who go to counselors are mentally "messed up", aren't
they? Not necessarily. However, no one is perfect.
Many of us have some aspect of our lives that isn't going as well as we'd
like. Some will choose to "tough it out" on their
own believing that "it's not that bad". Others will decide
that they want to take their life to "the next level" and see some counseling / coaching as the most direct
route. Temperament Therapy
is well suited for that. Temperament Therapy is aimed at expressing
the person you were made to be in a way that's satisfying to you and to
the people with whom you have relationships.
